It’s been one crazy week for anyone following the hacking community on Twitter. Over the weekend some flooded Sony’s PlayStation Network with an DDoS attack. Two separate hacker groups/individuals have taken credit for the event. The group, Lizard Squad, who claims to have ties to the terrorist group ISIS (ISIL), took credit for the attack. However, Anonymous hacker FamedGod also took credit, providing screen caped proof that he logged in to PlayStation admins. FamedGod also provided a tell all video, exposing the vulnerabilities in the PlayStation Network. Now, FamedGod’s Twitter account has been taken down. It has also been reported that Lizard Squad’s website was removed by the FBI.
Earlier in the week, FamedGod took credit for the PlayStation DDoS attack, sharing a video that in part boast:
“Welcome followers and supporters of FamedGod. Over the past 9 hours many are wondering why such events have occurred to the playstation network. Sony is a company that lacks the security which makes every user vulnerable to having their information leaked. Jailbreaks can access hidden and prohibited content now. Memory dumping can reveal the hidden servers which personal and main information is stored. Simple hex converting and decryption lead to a full DDoS on playstations main server data center. Please understand, I am here to show, that you as a corporate company are vulnerable.”
FamedGod was also seemingly at odds with the hacker group, Lizard Squad, who also claim credit for the attack on Sony. Lizard Squad even took it a bit further, Tweeting a bomb threat to an American Airlines flight carrying Sony’s Entertainment president, John Smedley:
“.@AmericanAir We have been receiving reports that @j_smedley's plane #362 from DFW to SAN has explosives on-board, please look into this.”
Now FamedGod’s Twitter account has been removed. Lizard Squad has chimed on the hacker’s sudden disappearance, via a string of tweets:
“We have some plans, stay tuned.”
“UH OH WHERE'D @FAMEDGOD GO?”
“I hope @FamedGod isn't scared of the dark.”
It has also been reported, however, we can not confirm, that the FBI has taken down Lizard Squad’s website.
What do you think of the latest attacks? Does the Lizard Squad’s choice of supposed targets suggest that they are mere children? Could they really have ties to ISIS or is that childish trolling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
