In a recent segment on SportsCenter, producer Scott Harves highlighted the emerging food culture in ball parks around the country. The piece, entitled "Based Loaded", was all about the decadent goodies that are now available at stadiums from Chicago to LA. And the menu, as the folks at ESPN said, goes way beyond the traditional offerings of hot dogs, peanuts and Cracker Jack.
"Based Loaded" took a trip around Major League Baseball and took a look at all of the wonderful, creative new dishes being offered that transcend the usual concession fare (via ESPN):
"It's a foodie's dream to watch. It's a fun, fast-paced whirlwind tour of parks, hearing from chefs, seeing the creativity that some of the chefs come up with, and some of the different spins that they put on food."
It's interesting to note that the food revolution is catching on even in old-fashioned corners of American culture, like baseball. Whereas the fans might want the game to stay pure, they might also want a craft beer and a pulled pork sandwich with a blueberry-chipotle barbecue sauce (via Huffington Post):
"America's national pastime may be steeped in traditions like the Seventh Inning Stretch and ceremonial first pitches, but when it comes to food, Major League Baseball parks are cooking up grub that goes way beyond peanuts and popcorn."
If you're getting hungry, there's still time this summer to go take in a game near you and see what your local ball park is cooking up.
