Permanent Records announced on their website last night about moving on down to South Slope following the loss of their Franklin Street lease. The new hut, they jokingly referred to as Permanent Records 2.0, will be located at 159 20th Street in South Slope, the building where crowdworking space BrooklynWorks at 159 is housed.
Matthew Milligan, Permanent Records manager, spoke to Gothamist today about the move.
"People can expect us to have our own hours and our own dedicated space inside,” said Milligan on the new digs. “It's a little hard to describe and a bit unconventional, but we're confident people won't be disappointed,” he said on being the only retailer in the collaborative environs.
Milligan continued on about the change of pace, explaining that Permanent Records will "expand on our mail order business for our Greenpoint friends who can't make the trek (and anyone else who likes records delivered by mail)."
Of course, they will still have their Amazon and Discogs online outposts as well in addition to their mail order service.
On the short train ride, or bike while the weather still permits, to get to the new location Milligan said, “We're hoping the same qualities that brought people out to our Greenpoint location will also bring them our new South Slope home."
And thus, the young hipsters of Franklin street will become friends with the old yipsters of South Slope and a record store remains open in 2014.
Permanent Records is looking to October 1 as a South Slope move-in date. Until then, business will remain the same in Greenpoint until September 15.
