Last week, our Clite A.V. Club had the pleasure of speaking with the Polyphonic Spree's cellist of many records and tours--the brilliant, indefatigable Buffi Jacobs.
The Spree were in town for a Tuesday night gig at Brooklyn Bowl (more about that show below), but Jacobs seemed most excited about her brand new venture: Anaphase.
And, honestly, we are, too.
As you can certainly hear in the two exclusive tracks here, her side project really is the next phase for electro-chamber pop down in Dallas.
So, while we finish putting together our interviews with Jacobs--as well as Spree/Anaphase bassist Bach Norwood--do yourself a solid and check out the lush, enveloping sound worlds of Norwood, guitarist Nick Earl and trombone player David Pierce via Classicalite's Soundcloud.
To Think and Dream (Pierce)
Constellation Chamber (Norwood/Earl)
As for that Polyphonic Spree show in Brooklyn, the performance proved more, well, lovely than their typical array of pastel light and frontman Tim DeLaughter's come-to-Jesus beckoning.
As the Village Voice's "Sound of the City" blog duly noted, it also served as a chapel for a wedding.
Like what you hear from the likes of Jacobs, Norwood, Earl, Pierce and trumpeter Evan Weiss? Head over to Anaphase's Kickstarter to wed some of your own money to great music (and maybe get a cello lesson from Jacobs, herself).
Trust us, you'll be glad you did.
