PlayStation Responds To ISIS Terrorist Lizard Squad Hack After Sony John Smedley American Airlines Bomb Threat

PlayStation has responded following this weekend’s network hack by the terrorist ISIS linked group, Lizard Squad. Sony’s Online Entertainment President John Smedley was also attacked personally, when a bomb threat was called for an American Airlines flight he was on.

UPDATE: The official PlayStation Twitter account has confirmed that the PlayStation network is back up and running, writing:

“Update: PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network are back online, thanks for your patience and support:”

The PlayStation Blog adds more information about the issue, writing:

“The PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network are back online and people can now enjoy the services on their PlayStation devices. The networks were taken offline due to a distributed denial of service attack. We have seen no evidence of any intrusion to the network and no evidence of any unauthorized access to users’ personal information.

“In light of today’s issue, the networks will not undergo the regularly scheduled maintenance, which was planned for Monday, August 25. We will provide an update shortly for when the maintenance will be rescheduled.”

The attack has been attributed to the ISIS linked hacker group Lizard Squad in order to get them to spend more money on security. One post on the group's Twitter page, seemingly supports this, reading:

“Sony, yet another large company, but they aren’t spending the waves of cash they obtain on their customers’ service. End the greed.”

Lizard Squad also claimed the attacks in the name of ISIS, Tweeting:

“Today we planted the ISIS flag on @Sony's servers #ISIS#jihad pic.twitter.com/zvqXb2f5XI”

The group also tweeted American Airlines that they had heard reports of a bomb aboard the flight carrying Sony’s Online Entertainment President John Smedley:

“.@AmericanAir We have been receiving reports that @j_smedley's plane #362 from DFW to SAN has explosives on-board, please look into this.”4
