CM Punk Return: Mankind Speculates As Mick Foley Comments On Stone Cold Steve Austin's Podcast

Although CM Punk's contract finally ran out last month and he is definitely not currently aligned with WWE, there is still speculation about the possibility of his return in the future. There seems to be animosity on both sides, but could cooler heads prevail in a year or two? Recently, Mick Foley and Stone Cold Steve Austin chatted on Austin's podcast, and the wrestler once known as Mankind (as well as Cactus Jack and Dude Love) made some comments on Punk's potential to come back to professional wrestling.

The Texas Rattlesnake and the Faces of Foley recently sat down on Steve Austin's podcast, and the subject of CM Punk came up. Foley acknowledged that Punk doesn't need to come back for the money, which is often the reason wrestlers come back past their prime.

Foley did mention, however, that sometimes it's merely the pull of the sport itself which drives performers to come back (via Cage Side Seats):

You know, you don't get to be as good as Punk was without loving it. And if you love it, there's really only one place to be, there (in WWE). Unless he wants to just be the guy who makes an absolute killing on the independent scene and working comic book conventions and making a handsome living that way."

Since Punk walked out the day after Royal Rumble, there has been near constant speculation on his relationship with the company. Since no one really knows what really goes on behind the scenes, it's impossible for anyone to truly assess the situation. For example, even if Punk really was tired and dissatisfied, that's not proof that he and Vince McMahon are on bad terms.

And even if they were, time heals all wounds. If Punk were to return some time in the future, he would be no different than the dozens of other legends who made a comeback, with the exception, possibly, of his fat wallet.
