Atlanta Falcons running back Steven Jackson may have missed some preseason games due to an injured hamstring, but he expects to be ready by the time the regular season starts. But if he's not, he can always pay the bills with his successful painting career. The NFL star recently had an art show where he sold over half his paintings. Even though his NFL contract probably pays way more, it's good to know that he can make money doing something else he loves.
Jackson most likely won't see action until the regular season starts, even if he is cleared to play. From the Falcons' point of view, there is no point in risking injury in a contest that doesn't matter. However, since he hasn't seen any action this preseason, the possibility remains (via NBC Sports):
"We are encouraged by what he has done over on that side with athletic performance. It's going to depend on the individual in terms of how he feels and once the doctor gives him the clear to go, then he will go."
Meanwhile, Jackson has been keeping busy with his painting. At an art show in July, Jackson sold 13 out of 23 pieces at the Hamilton-Selway Fine Art Gallery. Jackson reportedly sold one piece for about $7,000 (via TMZ):
"'[Steven] did great... Normally, it's a mix when you have a celebrity exhibit -- but we had high-end collectors who bought some of his pieces.'
"The gallery is so pumped about Steven's work -- they're planning to feature his work in a show on the East Coast ... but we're told that will probably take place next year ... after football season."
Good luck Steven, on the Falcons' upcoming season, and on your up and coming career as a painter.
