Bill Murray has agreed to speak about upcoming film St.Vincent at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5. Again, Bears fan Bill Murray, who frequents Brooklyn loft parties and spawned the phrase, “no one will ever believe you,” has agreed to a Q&A discussing him film lineage during what has been dubbed Bill Murray Day.
The Murray minifestival on September 5 will feature free screenings of his all time classic flicks Stripes, Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters, ending with the world premiere of Weinstein Company produced St. Vincent.
Wednesday night a spokeswoman from Weinstein confirmed that Murray has agreed to an audience chat and Q&A session post St. Vincent screening.
It seems it was possibly easier to get the illusive Bill to agree to a few q’s and a’s than it was for director Theodore Melfi to secure him for St. Vincent.
“There’s a 1-800 number and you call that number until you’re blue in the face,” Melfi recently said to Entertainment Weekly on the ordeal. “His voice is not on that answering machine. It’s just an old school voicemail. I left a dozen messages and never heard a word back.”
The two month long charade finally came to a close as Murray agreed to the film on the grounds of one on his many homes, sending Melfi off to LA via Murrays private driver.
Tickets are required for the free screenings, which will be available at 8am at the TIFF Bell Lightbox the morning of. The screenings begin at 10am.
What’s more? There is a contest, of course. The first 50 people to attend the earlier Murray film screenings will be given free tickets to the St. Vincent world premiere at the Princess of Wales Theater.
