Alex Rodriguez really hopes he can come back to play for the Yankees in 2015. After a long battle with Major League Baseball, including lawsuits and public denials of PED use, A-Rod is trying a more subtle approach. On advice from his lawyers, Rodriguez is being more cooperative in hopes of making a return to baseball after a year-long suspension.
A-Rod, who has had a long and storied career in professional baseball, was taken to task by MLB and the US government after accusations that he was juicing. Rodriguez still denies using banned substances, but sees no way to beat the powers that be, who seem to have substantial evidence to contradict his claims.
Anthony Bosch, who was discovered to be supplying a number of pro baseball players with PED's, named Rodriguez as one of his clients. Bosch recently appeared on 60 Minutes (via Forbes):
"'The saddest part about what (Biogenesis founder Anthony) Bosch said is the specific strategy they figured out on how to cheat,' Baker noted, pointing to the exact times A-Rod was supposedly told to consume the drugs to how to administer a post-game urine sample that would avoid detection if tested."
After fighting the decision loudly for over a year, Rodriguez has rethought his approach, thanks in part to his lawyer Jim Sharpe (via New York Times):
"... Sharp acknowledged that he is back in a lead role as Rodriguez's legal adviser, but was diplomatic about his reasons for removing himself from the defense team a year ago: 'I was uncomfortable with the plan that was presented to me and decided I would not align myself with it.'"
Even if Rodriguez were telling the truth about being innocent, his story is written now. Sadly, no one would believe him even if he were telling the truth.
