The iconic Rasta, Bob Marley, will have a special tribute next year when Baltimore Center Stage premier's it's latest is reggaponics with a Marley musical.
Including the most pivotal events in his life, the musical will focus on Marley's life between 1975 to the tail-end of 1977, along with the failed assassination attempt and his self-imposed isolation in England.
And fear not fans, the musical will include the singles. This means "I Shot the Sheriff," "No Woman, No Cry," "Exodus" and Kaya. Another album, Rastaman Vibration, will also make the canon.
Marley playwright and Center Stage artistic director Kwame Kwei-Armah collaborated with Blue Mountain Music (the publishing group with all the rights to Bob's stuff) wanted to train a musical specifically to the music of the musician's life, and not his life itself.
Members of the Marley tribe also played a role in the writing and production of the piece.
"When it comes to our father's work and legacy, we have always been mindful in selecting the artists with whom we choose to collaborate. We couldn't be more excited about the team that is assembled for this project," said the family in an interview at Billboard.
New York's Public Theater is involved with Baltimore Center Stage as creative collaborators although there hasn't been any reported New York show.
Keep on the up, and remember the songs of Marley as our pivotal "songs of freedom."
