WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar is headed for a rematch against John Cena next month at Night Of Champions. WWE handed down a proclamation via Twitter yesterday that John Cena will get the chance to avenge his loss at SummerSlam. He got a beat down so bad that he missed RAW Monday night. The announcement could lead to Cena reclaiming the title next month, which would make for an interesting storyline. However, the thousands of fans who hate Cena might not enjoy the redemption angle.
While Cena is a polarizing figure in wrestling, he is a fighting champion. Some feel that Lesnar's limited appearances would diminish the prestige of the title, but putting the strap back on Cena could be just as damaging (via Bleacher Report):
"Then again, the nature of Lesnar's contract means that he's only committed to attending so many dates during the year, so it's not like the current champion can show up on Raw every week and have a months-long title reign. And if anybody's gonna beat The Beast, it'll be Cena. The natural arc of this storyline is that Cena is humbled and beaten down and then finds a way to defeat the seemingly unbeatable Lesnar."
Despite the classic tale of shame and redemption, it may not be believable after the beating Cena took at SummerSlam. Brock Lesnar assured Cena, and the world, that it would happen again (via Cage Side Seats):
"I came, I saw, I conquered. I kicked your ass. Go home, lick your wounds, and I dare you - I double dog dare your ass to come back looking for another ass whoopin'."
John Cena may be the right choice for champion until Roman Reigns is ready, but it would sure be fun to not have to see him cracking jokes and busting rhymes for a while.
