Cleveland Browns fan Paul S. Serbu has been charged with disorderly conduct after posting a video on Youtube of him apparently urinating on Art Modell's grave. Modell, who died in 2012, owned the original Cleveland Browns team before moving them to Baltimore in 1996. Clevelanders never forgave that betrayal, even after they were granted a Browns franchise once more in 1999. The alleged grave desecrator now claims that he did not actually pee on the final resting place of Cleveland's public enemy #1, but instead simulated the act.
Serbu is looking at a possible $500 fine and up to two years in jail, according to ESPN. That's probably a proportional punishment, but they should attach an idiot tax to whoever would drive from Ohio to Maryland just to pull a prank so rude and juvenile (via ESPN):
"Baltimore County Police said Tuesday that 61-year-old Paul S. Serbu of Franklin, Ohio, has been charged with disorderly conduct in a cemetery, a misdemeanor. A police news release describes him as a Browns fan."
Apparantly Art Modell's son David is so upset with the accused urinator* that he won't even listen to an apology (via TMZ):
"Serbu's attorney told TMZ his client desperately wants to reach out to the Modell family and apologize -- but he shouldn't hold his breath. David tells us Serbu 'shouldn't reach out [to my family]. He should call his attorney.'"
David is reportedly anxious to see Serbu in court and behind bars. No matter how angry one might be, even if that anger is justified, it is never acceptable to disturb a dead person's final resting place. It's not only crass and disrespectful, it won't achieve anything.
*We know that's not a word, but it sure sounds funny.
