Join jazz public radio station WBGO and Pedrito Martinez with his group on the Latin Jazz Cruise on the Hudson River this Wednesday, August 20.
Departing from Chelsea Piers, Pier 61 on Manhattan’s West Side, the two-hour dinner and dance cruise aboard The Spirit of New York will bring to life the sounds of Havana. The Pedrito Martinez Group is full of the Afro-Cuban Rumba tradition and in the bata rhythms and vocal chants of the music of Yoruba and Santeria.
Formed in 2008, members of the Pedro Martinez Group include percussionist, Jhair Sala, from Lima, Peru; electric bassist, Alvaro Benavides, from Caracas, Venezuela; and keyboard player/vocalist, Araicne Trujillo, from Havana, Cuba.
What’s more? Views of the New York Harbor during the sunset cruise to the tune of Cuba. Choose from either a 6pm boarding, moonlight cruise at 9pm. The Spirit of New York ship has three climate-controlled interior decks with panoramic windows if you need a break form dancing.
To obtain tickets, WBGO Members can call 1-866-483-3866 to receive the special WBGO Member rate. Not a member? It’s all good. Visit wbgo.org/events or email events@wbgo.org for your spot.
Listen below to “La Luna (DoctorD Latin Radio Horn Remix)” off of the Pedro Martinez Groups’ self-titled debut album.
