CW ‘Arrow’ Stephen Amell Talks Robin Williams After Tragic Suicide: Quits Facebook and Twitter Temporarily

The world lost an icon this past Monday when acclaimed actor Robin Williams took his own life. Williams had struggled for years with addiction and depression. It has since been revealed Williams also suffered from the early stages of Parkinson's Disease. The death of this beloved Father/husband/entertainer has taken it’s toll on millions. Recently, the CW Arrow star, Stephen Amell, opened up about the loss of Williams. Amell spoke up about staying silent. The Green Arrow actor is temporarily quitting Facebook and Twitter in the wake of the tragedy, to avoid the trolls who are making light of Williams death. Amell made this announcement via Facebook, writing:

“Hey FB - my apologies for the lack of activity. Social media isn't my favorite place in the immediate aftermath of a well publicized tragedy. In the case of the gentleman we lost Monday, I just want to flee from the internet. Someone always ruins things and it always makes me angry. Be good to one another. xo”

Stephen Amell is no stranger to the darker side of the internet. Earlier in the year an Ebay auction to raise money for Prayers for Sophie was hacked. Amell spoke about his encounter with the real life villains, via Facebook, writing:

“Here's what happened: I like to operate from the standpoint that the world is filled with good people who want to support causes. Unfortunately, the world is also filled with assholes who want to artificially inflate an auction in the hopes that... I don't even know. You can't rationalize people without good sense. We had a bunch of people spamming the beginning of the auction. In the latter stages we had a number of reputable eBay people back out. The winning bidder claimed someone hacked her account. Why? I have no idea. Maybe they skipped school the day the teacher outlined the basic parameters of human decency. Maybe they were worried that I wasn't who I claim to be.”

Amell later took responsibility for the failing, adding:

“The whole scenario was a lot to wrap my head around. I should have realized that buyer requirements were a must. They now exist. I should have started with a shorter auction and only shipped to North American bidders. Those are now the parameters.

We are happy to report that Amell’s latter action was successful and he continues to raise money for Prayers For Sophie.
