Renewed HBO ‘Leftovers’ Star Talks ‘Zoolander 2’ with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson

It was announced recently that HBO’s new drama The Leftovers was being renewed for a second season. However, that renewal might keep Justin Theroux from working on the long-awaited Zoolander sequel with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

Michael Lombardo, HBO’s Programming President spoke about the renewal in a press statement, saying:

"We are thrilled to bring back The Leftovers for a second season with the exceptional talents of Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta. It has been truly exciting to see the overwhelming response to their provocative and original storytelling. We look forward to continuing the journey as the show delves deeper into the lives of those who remain."

Now, Justin Theroux is opening up about reprising his role as the Evil D.J. in Zoolander, telling Vulture:

“Yeah, we’ve got a script for the sequel, and we’ve just been in talks again. We’re trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don’t want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running…”

However, it looks like there might be little time leftover, (YES!...That is a wrap on the worst joke ever.) now that his show has been renewed:

“It’s actually been a little hard with the show, but now I’m back full-time to dedicate time toward doing it. I met with Ben [Stiller] a couple times when I was in New York doing The Leftovers, and then I’m meeting again with him probably in September.”

Theroux was in talks to direct the upcoming Zoolander sequel, however, the

“I don’t think I’m going to do it anymore. It really depends on whether the show gets picked up. If it gets picked up, then I don’t think I’ll have the time to do it. So it’ll probably get handed to Ben, which would be awesome.”
