HBO’s hit drama Game of Thrones is well known for tendency to kill of characters. However, its the unscripted death of a cast member that we are unfortunately reporting on tonight. Actor JJ Murphy passed away shortly after filming his first scenes for hit series. Murphey was cast Night’s Watch member Ser Denys Mallister. The death comes just four days after Murphy filmed his first scene for the hit series. He was 86-years-old. Murphy was also known for his roles in the Angela's Ashes, Dracula Untold as well as numerous roles on the stage.
Stage and screen actor J.J. Murphy’s has passed away at the age of 86. Murphy was recently cast as Ser Denys Mallister, the oldest member of the Night’s Watch. It has now been reported that the role with not be recast out of respect for Murphy.
Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have released a joint statement to the press about Murphy’s role on the series (Via Entertainment Weekly):
“We will not be recasting J.J. Murphy. He was a lovely man, and the best Denys Mallister we could have hoped for. And now his watch is ended.”
