Biggy Smalls' 'Ready To Die' single "Juicy" Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Standardized Aptitude Test: Check Yo Knowtorious Skillz, Gangsta

Today marks the 20th anniversary of “Juicy” by Notorious B.I.G., the first single off of his life changing first album Ready To Die. Easily one of the best rap songs of all time, “Juicy” is still the anthem of hip-hop obsessed everywhere, at every age.

To this day, the “dream big” lyrics are idolized and praised for their comfortable understanding. What with a reference to long dead publication Word Up! Magazine, sample of “Juicy Fruit” by Mtume and tales of everyday struggles; the Pete Rock and self-congratulating lameoid P Diddy produced hit will forever be infamous.

In celebration of the anniversary and all of those magnificent facts about “Juicy” that made Biggy Smalls a legend, Grantland's Shea Serrano has created quite an impressive standardized test. The test is an honest attempt to challenge the “Juicy” nerd on their Knotorious knowledge--read: the “Juicy” lyric SAT. Go ahead challenge your self; don’t be scared. The full Grantland test, instructions and answer key are below.

This is the “Juicy” Standardized Test.

One more time:

This is the “Juicy” Standardized Test. This is not the Fill in the Blank “Juicy” quiz, or the True/False “Juicy” quiz, or the Word Bank Matching “Juicy” Quiz. You won’t be able to weasel your way through it by simply connecting words in the questions that rhyme with words in the responses. This is an adaptation of several statewide exams (New York and Texas, mostly), designed to replicate the rigor of those tests by asserting tiered, higher-order questioning.

It’s 10 questions long. And every question is rooted in “Juicy”-dom. If you’re not very familiar with the song, don’t even bother. Because this is the nerdiest rap thing.

And don’t sit there trying to answer the questions with a browser window opened to a “Juicy” lyrics page. Don’t be a dolt.

Good luck. I hope that you do not die here today.
