Christian Tetzlaff Opens 92nd Street Y Distinguished Artists Series with Bach's Complete Sonatas and Partitas September 18

To kick off 92nd Street Y's 2014-15 season, Christian Tetzlaff is set to play Bach's complete "Sonatas and Partitas" for solo violin as part of the Distinguished Artists Series on Thurday, September 18.

"By playing them as often as I have in this way, I have developed a greater sense of freedom and confidence,” said Tetzlaff on the evenings selections.

“I’m not afraid of losing myself if I make some spontaneous decisions to do something differently. As long as I can stay in the proper frame of mind and feel secure, then I can take more risks and feel more liberated in my playing,” he said.

The 2014-15 season will see Tetziaff performing in North America with the Boston Symphony, both in Boston and in Carnegie Hall, Cleveland Orchestra, Montreal, Seattle and Pittsburgh symphonies, Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival and Chicago’s Grant Park Music Festival. Tetziaff also has duo-recitals with Lars Vogt in Santa Fe, Berkeley, La Jolla and Santa Barbara. Across the pond, Tetzlaff is the Artist-in-Residence with the Berlin Philharmonic, performs wth Munich Philharmonic, London and Vienna symphonies, and is a soloist on tours with the Swedish Radio Orchestra in Europe and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in Asia.

Tetzlaff is currently recording Brahms' piano trios with cellist Tanja Tetzlaff and pianist Lars Vogt set to be released in 2015, on Ondine.

Tickets to the evenings event are anywhere from $25-62, subject to change. But they do come with a complimentary glass of champagne during intermission.
