Paul McCartney has entered the final frontier, metaphorically speaking. The ex-Beatle has been a part of an ongoing project for an upcoming video game called Destiny--set to release on the PlayStation and Xbox gaming platforms September 9.
In collaboration with Marty O'Donnell, acclaimed composer who worked with McCartney on scoring the soundtrack to Bungie's Halo, a major success in the gaming world.
Yes, you heard this right. Paul McCartney, performer for peace, an activist and vegetarian will contribute his musical stylings to be your background music for alien slaying (that's quite alright with us).
But this isn't any recent project. According to The New York Times, McCartney isn't much of a game enthusiast but was intrigued of interactive music composition. Him and O'Donnell met periodically at Abbey Road Studios in London and various other studios in New York and L.A. and completed a 50-minute orchestral suite for the video game.
He apparently has a penchant for Halo because of his grandchildren, as he would play it with them, but it sounds more like he's intrigued by venturing into something foreign to him.
As Allan Kozinn put it, "Longtime fans of Mr. McCartney's might wonder whether Destiny, with its unabashedly violent scenarios, is the best fit for a musician who had included a fragment of John Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance" in his stage set for a while, and who has long been a militant vegetarian."
"But maybe, even for Mr. McCartney, if you have to defend the earth, you do what you've got to do," he concluded.
Agreed, Kozinn.
Some of the music has hit the internet so check it out below for your listening pleasure. But this time, fans of the Beatles may have to revise their Beatles catalog to include interactive media.
