Well it was bound to happen at some time. Grammy winner, and President of the United States, Barack Obama has covered Iggy Azalea’s hit song “Fancy.” OK, so it is really the latest creation from the good folks of the YouTube.com Barackdubs. This comes hot on the heels of the Jimmy Fallon / Neil Young version of the song, seen on the Tonight Show. Check out the official video bellows plus a few more versions of the song, just for good measure.
The official description for the new dub, reads:
“As per tradition, our president sings the songs of the summer, starting with Fancy by Iggy Azalea. Check back August 18th for the presidential rendition of Problem by Ariana Grande.”
Chamberlain has compiled a mashup of Iggy’s track with Reba McEntire’s classic cover of the Bobbie Gentry song “Fancy.”
Bobbie Gentry’s “Fancy” is a tale of a young girl from a down on their luck family whose mother dresses her up in a fancy dress and sends her out into the world, to (presumably) prostitute herself in order to survive, Iggy’s song is a fair less emotional tale, and includes the lrycis:
“my flow retarded, they speaked it, depart it
Swagger on super, I can't shop at no department”
Postmodern Jukebox have interpreted the song in the style of a 1920’s Jazz number.
The video for the Postmodern Jukebox rendition of the “Fancy” offers the following description:
“The 1920's were truly a fancy decade, so Ashley Stroud joined us to re-imagine Iggy Azalea's hit song as if it was sung by a Jazz Age flapper. Perfect for your next Great Gatsby-themed party”.
Check out Iggy in Ariana Grande’s “Problem,” before Barack dubs get their hands on it:
