Incorporating contemporary ballet, breakdancing and circus arts, Jacob Jonas and Company is set to premiere their first full length “In A Room On Broad Street” at the Alvin Alley Citigroup Theatre this week, ending on August 7.
Through “In A Room On Broad St.,” Jacob Jonas’s takes on the superfluous issues with societal competitiveness and the effects therein. The fluid interpretative dance explores ways in which a competitive natured society affects relationships, work ethics, and the individual’s place within society, while maintaining balance, patience and strength.
Such cerebral concepts are no stranger to Los Angeles-based Jacob Jonas The Company (JJTC)’s work. JJTC is known for exploring and examining the concepts of man vs. self, man vs. man, man vs. society, and man vs. time
Similarly, that is how JJTC was formed. Last year, JJTC invited a group of dancers from all over America to participate in the Capezio ACE Awards, Award for Choreographic Excellence. During the competition, over 500 of the best choreographers enter for which only 16 are chosen. JJTC placed third and thus the dance company came to life.
JJTC features talented dancers from a varied background including: Cirque Du Soliel, Pilobolus Dance Theatre and Diavolo Dance to...Beyonce, Rhianna and Justin Timberlake.
Watch below JJTC’s performance of “In A Room On Broad Street” from last year. The synchronicity of talent is quite amazing in this clip.
