Trombone Shorty is not just the stage name of one of New Orleans' most famous t-bone players; it's since become a sort of shorthand for a new kind of superhero down in the Crescent City. When news hit of a robbery that plagued an aspiring 14-year-old's music career, T. Short took to his fan base to help the youth recover.
Per NoLA, a ninth-grader at Edna Karr High School was mugged on his walk home from Berkley Drive. An armed assailant jumped out of a passing car and held the freshman at gunpoint for his instrument.
Yikes!
For several years now, Troy Andrews (Trombone Shorty's birth name)--with the aid of his Trombone Shorty Foundation--has been successful in equipping musically-inclined youths with the tools and resources necessary to find their way.
The young man's name has been withheld for safety concerns, but Bill Taylor, TSF's executive director, brought the trombone student a new instrument on Saturday--no doubt changing a traumatic experience into a more positive one.
We salute you, Misters Andrews and Taylor, with this 2011 performance.
