Chris Hemsworth is a busy man between spending time with his wife and three children and his budding film career. The actor is in high demand. Fans are currently waiting for the follow ups to his hit movies, Avengers and Snow White and The Huntsman. However, one of the most highly anticipated sequels, Thor 3, has not officially been confirmed yet. Hemsworth recently opened up about returning for the film, however, Marvel has opened the door for him to leave the series in the near future. Recently, Marvel comics has announced that they handing over the mantle of Thor to a woman. Avengers director Joss Whedon has also come forward with his suggestion for a live-action replacement, Katee Sackhoff A.K.A Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica.
During Comic-Con 2014, Chris Hemsworth spoke to Screen Crush about Thor 3 claiming that he doesn’t know if or when there be one:
“I hope we’re doing another one. I think we’re doing another one. I don’t know anything official as of yet, but I’m looking forward to it.”
There is the possibility that Chris Hemsworth could be replaced in the future if he decided to step down. Recently, Marvel announced that the Thor mantle was being passed down to a female character.
The official press release by Marvel editor Wil Moss states spoke the new legacy hero:
"The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription. The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute--she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!"
Joss Whedon has made his recommendation for a live action Thor replacement, Tweeting:
“A female Thor? What the hell makes them think THAT would be cool?”
