Linebacker John Abraham, the leading active all-time sack leader in the NFL, was arrested Monday for DUI. Defensive teammate Patrick Peterson said the Cardinals love and support Abraham, who also got a DUI in 2003. He has admittedly struggled with alcohol over the years.
Abraham had been absent from training camp, with his team's permission, prior to his arrest, but there is no indication his absence had anything to do with his drinking (via CBS Sports):
"I'm not going through that stuff again," he told AZ Central last August. "It's a bigger headache than it's worth. I got mine one time, and one time is enough. It's brought more pain than it did anything else. That one night of partying wasn't worth all the things I had to go through."
Abraham has apologized in the press and looks to rejoin his team as soon as possible (via ESPN):
"I understand the significance of my actions and right now I am taking the necessary steps to handle my personal business.
