The UCLA Campus was flooded Tuesday after a water line burst, destroying the newly renovated Pauley Pavillion. The line was reportedly 90 years old and due to be fixed before something like this could happen. The main concern is that city officials are aware of these conditions, but have been slow to repair the ancient, deteriorating pipes.
Reportedly, the campus drowned under 20 million gallons of fresh water on Tuesday (via E! Online):
"One of the most devastating consequences of the flood was the damage done to Pauley Pavilion, an arena on campus that completed a $136 million renovation just two years ago."
UCLA could be just the first of many victims of old water lines that are overdue to be addressed (via LA Times):
"Officials have long known that hundreds of miles of city water lines have deteriorated and need replacement, with many past the century mark."
