The Philadelphia Orchestra is making at return to Carnegie Hall come Jan. 17 with their promising young conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin who will lead the Pennsylvania-based outfit through the works of Ravel.
One of the most dynamic ensembles on the world stage the Philadelphia Orchestra will play Rave's "La Valse," Szymanowski's "Violin Concerto No. 2, Op. 61," finally followed by Shostakovich "Symphony No. 5."
Joining the orchestra and Nezet-Seguin is violinist Leonidas Kavakos."Arguably the most deeply satisfying violinist performing today," said The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Nezet- Seguin can be associated with numerous orchestras and classical music persons.
Along with taking over the lead role at the Philadelphia Orchestra, the French-Canadian is also contracted to the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, in the Netherlands as a principal conductor.
Nezet-Seguin is also closely linked with Carlo Maria Giulini and Charles Dutoit the man who introduced him to the Philadelphia Orchestra.
This is the second time this season the Philadelphia Orchestra has been at the Manhattan venue. On Oct. 23 Nezet-Seguin and his troops were joined by singers soprano Marina Poplavskaya, mezzo-soprano Christine Rice,tenor Rolando Villazon and bass Mikhail Petrenko and the Westminster Symphonic Choir.
Marina Poplavskaya is a Russian soprano who has work with the likes of the Royal Opera House and the Metropolitan Opera House. She has done plays such as "War and Peace," by Natasha Prokofiev and also played in Puccini's "Turnadot."
British mezzo-soprano Christine Rice is a staple around many European theaters such as the Royal Opera, Covent Garden; the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Oper Frankfurt, Teatro Real in Madrid and the National English Opera. She has also done plays such as Georges Bizet's "Carmen,"
A Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres recipient Rolando Villazon has been one of opera's consistent performers over the years and this season will see the Mexican perform with the likes of Daniel Barenboim and tour Europe to celebrate the birth of Giuseppe Verdi.
