Former American Idol Season 7 finalist Michael Johns has tragically died. The singer/songwriter was 35-year-old. Not a lot is known at this time but it has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that the cause of death was due to a blood clot in his ankle. Season 7 winner David Cook has also opened up at his friends death.
One of the admins for Johns’ website has confirmed the news via Twitter, writing:
"It is with a heavy heart and inconsolable sadness that we confirm the passing of our friend Michael Johns."
The Hollywood Reporter has compiled a list of statements about Johns’ passing. The American Idol Season 7 winner David Cook spoke about his former competitor:
"Mike was one of the first people I bonded with when I got to Hollywood week, and I can honestly say that the depth and pressure associated with the first few weeks of the Idolexperience would've eaten me alive, had it not been for Mike. He had a way of making this gigantic, life-altering event seem small and manageable. To say I'm shocked and saddened is a gross understatement. I'm completely gutted for his family, including his wife, Stacey. I hope they can find at least some small amount of solace in the fact that he made mine and many others' lives so much better by having known him."
American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe also commented on John’s passing:
"His acoustic version of the Bee Gees' 'To Love Somebody' was very special but I will always remember him singing the Beatles' 'You Never Give Me Your Money/Golden Slumbers.' One of his favorite songs. ... He was a great talent and dear friend. My boys and I were devastated to hear the news."
Our thoughts are with John’s wife Stacey, his family, friends, and fans in this difficult time.
