Justin Blackmon, wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, was arrested for possession of marijuana following a traffic stop. Blackmon had already received an indefinite suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse, but was cleared to play at the start of this season until this incident.
Blackmon admitted to smoking weed in the car (via USA Today):
"Mr. Blackmon said he had been smoking a blunt marijuana (marijuana cigar) while he was driving and that there was another full blunt within the car in a box, and that's exactly what our officer's found in the vehicle."
Local police responded to accusations that they mistreated Blackmon per video of his arrest denied they did anything wrong.
Edmond police officials say the arresting officer was in compliance with the departmental regulations in his actions (via TMZ):
"Placing someone in handcuffs in that situation is a safety issue not only for the officer, but the person involved who could react in a manner that would turn a minor violation into a felonious act."
