Charles Barkley might be controversial at times, but deep down he has a heart of gold. The one-time Philadelphia forward recently reached out to the family of three Philadelphia kids who were killed in a car crash at the hands of carjackers. The victims, including the mother who is hospitalized with severe injuries, were selling fruit for a church fundraiser. Barkley has offered to pay for the funeral costs of the children. Keisha Williams was admitted in critical condition.
Barkley, a one-time Philadelphia 76er, reportedly reached out to help pay for the funerals of Keiearra Williams, 15, Thomas Joseph Reed, 10, and Terrence Williams, 7 (via CBS Sports):
"Like most Philadelphians, many Americans, and people across the world that heard about this and were moved, he wanted me to know that he wanted to pay for the funeral for these three children, and I put him in touch with the family so he can do that,"
Sometimes celebrities make a big to do about offering to help "normal folks", but Barkley didn't even want anyone to know about his private gesture (via Fox News):
"Barkley has not spoken publicly about his apparent offer. The Alabama native played for the Philadelphia 76ers between 1984 and 1992 and was one of the most popular athletes in the city's history during his tenure."
