Charles Barkley announced this week that he and Tiger Woods aren't friends anymore. News of the breakup comes in the form of a rant about how the enigmatic Woods is so consumed with the game of golf and his pursuit of breaking Jack Nicklaus' major victories record of 18 tournaments that he doesn't really spend time with friends and family. Not because he's jealous of his ex-friend's golf game or anything. Sir Charles, the notorious San Antonio Fat Women Hater's Club spokesman (he's also the president!) cussed up a storm following a terrible performance last week at a celebrity golf tournament.
Barkley, a golf enthusiast, played a horrid game last week. He did so badly, at one point he reportedly berated his own golf ball with profanities. He ultimately finished dead last (TMZ):
"In fact, Barkley didn't make par ONCE during the tourney and only bogeyed 5 times in 54 holes. On the other side of the spectrum, Mark Rypien CRUSHED IT ... winning the tourney in front of Jeremy Roenick and Annika Sorenstam. Other notable finshers who beat Barkley -- Alan Thicke (83rd place), Ray Romano (80th) and Bill Engvall (75th)."
Maybe Sir Charles is taking those feelings of frustration out on Tiger Woods. If you know Tiger, you kind of know what you're getting into. But maybe, as Barkley himself observed, maybe they were never that close to begin with (via CBS Sports):
"I think that when you're as great as he has been, and this probably is a negative at some point, like he was so consumed with being the greatest golfer ever, he wasn't a very sociable guy. Even when was a friend of mine, he wasn't a very sociable guy. He just had a one-track mind. He just wanted to break Jack Nicklaus' record."
