The stabbing death of Tanganyika Hoover a few weeks ago allegedly happened at the hands of her husband, Michael Williams. Thanks to her nephew, LA Clippers guard Matt Barnes, he was arrested as the primary suspect today. He used Twitter and Instagram to alert people in the Sacramento area to the situation, which likely led to the tip which allowed police to find Williams. Barnes says Williams murdered his aunt and left her for dead. Barnes is also one of several Clippers players to publicly say he might sit out next season if owner Donald Sterling is still named owner.
After Tanganyika Hoover was stabbed to death, Matt Barnes beseeched fans via social media to be on the lookout for Michael Williams (via CBS Los Angeles):
"This dude stabbed my auntie in the neck last week & left her for dead on the sidewalk, she ended up dying on the way to the hospital in the ambulance. If you hv [sic] any info on his whereabouts contact the #SacPD # SacramentoWeNeedYourHelp #RIPTang,"
Now Williams has been arrested, and Barnes thinks that his reach as a celebrity helped put the word out and as a result a call from a tipster led to his capture (via ABC 7 Los Angeles):
"'I got some of my other friends to repost it, and really just have the whole city of Sacramento on the lookout for this guy.' Barnes told Good Morning America. 'Because when it's your family, you just feel like you can do more. You want to do more.'"
According to USA Today, Barnes is one of several Clippers players who are considering sitting out next season if owner Donald Sterling does not relinquish control of the team. The NBA forced a sale in June after banning Sterling from the NBA for life, but the disgraced owner is fighting the sale, negotiated by his wife Shelly, in court.
