Last week it was announced that MMA fighter won't be charged with any crime even though he took another man's life. Prosecutors determined from the investigation that he was legally within his rights to defend himself in a home invasion which resulted in Torrez's killing of the invader.
On New Year's Day, four men reportedly attempted to break into Torrez's house in New Mexico. Torrez defended his home and his loved ones and stabbed at least one man, who died shortly after escaping into the street. One man was hospitalized, and the other apparently got away.
Now, after the investigation has concluded, the district attorney says he committed no crime. Torrez is reportedly ready to put the incident behind him and move on (via TMZ):
"Essentially, officials felt his actions were justified under the circumstances.
"Joe's attorney tells us, 'Joe is extremely ecstatic, and more importantly, he's thankful for all the support that people have shown him.'
"We're told Joe -- who's 1-5 in his MMA career -- has resumed his MMA training and is looking forward to scheduling his next fight."
Joe's fiancée and child were in the house, so it seems like he did what had to be done, but that doesn't mean it didn't take a toll on him psychologically and emotionally (via CBS News):
"Torrez says he acted to protect himself and his family but that he finds it difficult to think about taking another man's life. 'I don't wish that on nobody,' he told the paper."
The shock of those events are surely hard to handle. Fortunately no one (except the burglars) was seriously harmed. Here's wishing Joe Torrez and his family well. Thank goodness for their safety and congratulations for not having to go to court!
