Panic at The Disco are paying for the Westboro Baptist “Church” to protest them...OK, they are really donating money to gay rights groups for every member of the WBC that showed up. This is just one example of the fight hate with approach to dealing with WBC. Rising Star judge and "Moonshine in the Trunk" singer Brad Paisley recently got “friendly” with the WBC by Tweeting a selfie with them at a protest of one his recent shows.
When Panic at The Disco learned that the WBC were planning to protest one of their shows, they issued a little challenge, tweeting:
“Today @WBCSays is going to picket us. For every member of WBC that actually shows up we will donate $20 to @HRC #pride2014”
Well only 13 members of The Westboro Baptist Church actually showed up, according to their own Twitter account:
“We counted, @PanicAtTheDisco! We had 13 picketers! But if we're being technical, you must count myriads of angels!”
For those of you keeping score at home is only a measly $260 dollars. So the good folks of Panic threw in an extra $740, tweeting:
“Thank you @WBCSays for the update on the total amount you donated to @HRC today. $20X13= weak. We're going to make it an even $1000.”
Panic didn’t count the “myriads of angels!” in their estimate, (We are pretty sure that only angels in attendance were the one that fell from Heaven along with Lucifer.) but they did throw in a little extra, just in case:
“We will also be donating 5% of our total merch sales from this show to @HRC”
Panic at the Disco are not the musicians who been getting “friendly” with WBC. Recently, Rising Star host, Brad Paisley took a selfie with a few protesters at one of his shows. Check out the pic below:
