Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren is being honored with a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Category of Motion Pictures Jan. 3, 2013, at 11:30 AM according to Playbill.com.
The British actress will become the 2,488th person to receive the coveted honor. The event will be emceed by Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president/CEO Leron Gubler and will be held at 6714 Hollywood Boulevard in front of The Pig N'Whistle Pub. The event will be streamed live on www.walkoffame.com.
"What a way to start the New Year on the Walk of Fame with one of the most acclaimed actresses known around the world," said Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. "We are thrilled to honor Helen and welcome her to our Walk of Fame family."
Mirren was born Ilynea Lydia Mironoff on July 26, 1945 in Chiswick, London, England. She has an English mother and her father was a Russian aristocrat who was stranded in London after the 1917 revolution and was a driving instructor and a musician. Mirren was also the granddaughter of a White Russian emigre nobleman and has two siblings.
In her youth she once worked at the Kursaal amusement park in Southend as a "blagger" to attract customers to the rides. She attended a teacher training college to please her parents but pursued her real love, acting, during weekends and vacations at the National Youth Theatre.
Mirren has starred in such films as the "Queen" and the recently released "Hitchcock." On Broadway she played in such pieces as "A Month in the Country," where she took home a Theatre World Award.
