‘Divergent’ Shailene Woodley Boyfriend Theo James Dating Split; Miles Teller Defends Violence Against Women [VIDEO]

Apparently Divergent star Shailene Woodley and Theo James aren't dating, despite what you might have heard or read on the internet. Shai's Insurgent boyfriend has reportedly been with his British actress girlfriend, Ruth Kearney, for years. Besides Woodley probably wouldn't be interested anyways; according to the latest gossip news updates she's seeing Canadian Juno, Ellen Page. Word has it that Miles Teller was lured to the Veronica Roth book based franchised with promises the he would get to beat up smug clay eating Shailene. Miller admits that violence depicted against women on screen is horrible, but he defended the brutality by claiming thats just the way it is the dystopian future in which Tris lives. You don't want to know what they promised Ansel Elgort that we would get to do to Shai if he joined The Fault of Our Stars.

Most people in the world adore precocious Divergent star Shailene Woodley's refreshingly offbeat take on life and relationships, and yet they still sometimes want to hit her in the face with a L.A. County phonebook.

That is the energy that franchise producer Lucy Fisher tapped into when trying to lure actor Miles Teller into playing a baddie.

In the behind the scenes doc entitled Bringing Divergent to Life included on Divergent recently released Blu-ray, Fisher claims that is was the assurance that Miles would get to rough up Woodley that helped sell him on taking the role (via MTV)::

"One of the ways we enticed Miles Teller to do the movie was to say, 'You're going to get to beat up Shai!'"

According to Movie Pilot, however, Teller pretended like he had some sort of issue with kicking the crap out of Shai.

To make himself seem like a nice go, Miles at least at acknowledged that violence against women usually doesn't play well on screen before totally letting his character of the hook:

"I said, you know, how's this going to look? It's kind of hard to redeem yourself...But that's just this [Divergent] world. Men are against women."

Yeah...you just try to pull that tough talking BS when Ellen Page gets on set little fella.
