New King Kong ‘Skull Island’ Movie Announced After ‘Giver’ Alexander Skarsgard Tarzan Rebot Film [PREQUEL] [SEQUEL] [COMIC-CON]

Forget the whole zombie/vampire movie craze, Hollywood is heading in a new director… The past! Tinsel Town is gearing up to rehash classics, Tarzan and King Kong. First it was announced that Warner Brothers was working on a Tarzan sequel starring True Blood and The Giver’s Alexander Skarsgard. Now it has been announced that Legendary is taking us back to Skull Island in the new King Kong (we assume prequel) film.

Hollywood is a jungle, and Alexander Skarsgard is its new king. Now that True Blood is ending the actor is free to expand his resume. Skarsgard has just been cast as the lead in the upcoming Tarzan reboot.

The new movie will skip Tarzan's well known origins, according to a plot synopsis provided by HeyUGuys, which reads:

"It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Margot Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash."

However, Tarzan might have to defend his crown against the mother of all contenders. King Kong is back and this time we are own his turf. Legendary films is planning a new movie based on Kong’s homeland, Skull Island.

The studio teased the new movie at Comic-Con, telling reporters (Via Deadline):

“Previous works have touched on the island, but staying and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.”
