It appears that it only took a month or so for the tabloid rumors that Magic Mike bi-sexual stripper, Channing Tatum, and his Witches of East End wife, Jenna Dewan, were getting a divorce to finally disappear. Apparently Jenna and Channing are still together and happily married--with no intentions to split. Now Jonah Hill's 22 Jump Street bestie can focus on his true passion--trying to get his role as Gambit in an official X-MEN movie of the ground. However, the writers from the franchise insist they still can't decide if Tatum's Cajun character should get his own standalone film to introduce his Gambit to the world or if Channing should just make his debut in a the franchise's next giant joint adventure, APOCALYPSE.
Thanks to X-MEN: First Class, the Marvel movie franchise is going a strong as ever, which is why it seems like the perfect time for Magic Mike to make his big-screen introductions to Professor X and the rest of the crew.
Channing Tatum has been itching to pay Gambit in the X-MEN series for about as long as he can remember, but according to writer Simon Kinberg, the former model is going to have to wait a little longer.
In an interview with the Latino Review, Kinberg claimed that he honestly couldn't tell you when Tatum would be making the transition into the X-MEN crew (via HNGN):
"I genuinely don't know the answer to that question...It's something we are all talking about whether it would be good for Gambit to be in a mainline X-MEN movie or he would be in his own stand-alone movie potentially one day to be able to be in another X-MEN movie after his Gambit movie introduces him.
"I really don't know the answer...I don't think there is a hard and fast rule which way is better.
"I think both ways have worked and I think actually the real question will be is there a role that is strong and specific enough for Gambit in a mainline X-MEN movie whether it be APOCALYPSE or a future X-MEN movie that would be the right way to introduce the character.
"You don't want to stick characters in these movies and manufacture something for them to do."
For his part, Channing doesn't seem to bothered by all the studio BS.
When Tatum spoke to the Latino Review he said he was more than happy just to have the opportunity to play the role and confuse the audience with his Arcadian cadence (via HNGN):
"I'm super hyped about it. I would say we're going to try do something maybe a little different.
"I don't know how to exactly explain it just yet, but he's a character's character.
"He's got a serious Cajun accent. I don't know if you've heard a Cajun accent, but [we're] going to [need] subtitles at some times."
Geezy creezy...just put the poor kid in a damn X-MEN movie already.
