"Musical selfies" describes classical pianist Robert Taub of his new iPhone app Hook'd--a karaoke application with video that allows the user to superimpose his or her voice over original hit tunes.
Not an app that does "covers," this one instead uses original audio, the very same instrumentation you hear on the mastered version of your favorite songs--allowing the user to record atop sans voice track.
If you're not a lyric memorizer, have no fear. The app--though, much like karaoke--displays the lyrics for the singer. (You can also listen to the original lead vox if you feel so inclined.)
With a mere 42 songs strong upon the app's release (for free on iPhone and iPod Touch), Taub says that more songs will be added in just a few weeks.
His company, MuseAmi, is based in Princeton, N.J. and has negotiated with the three major labels: Universal, Sony and Warner Music Group.
The app is also in accordance with certain publishing companies, too.
So, try out your own voice with a reference cut that will premiere on this exciting new piece of music tech.
