‘Almost Human’ Netflix Renewal Petition Update and ‘Firefly’ Style Movie Rumors After Fox Cancellation [INTERVIEW]

Tis the season for cancellations. Every network is currently cleaning house to make room for new shows. Fox has just recently announced the cancellations of several shows, including: Dads, Enlisted and Surviving Jack. However, out of the networks cancellations, fans are taking the loss of Almost Human the hardest. The J.J. Abrams produced futuristic cop-drama has some very devoted fans who have started a petition to save the series. The round robin online plea has reached it’s goal of 15,000 signatures and will keep moving forward towards a new goal. The petition is being to set to various networks for consideration, including Netflix, Amazon and HBO. We recently spoke to the lead petitioner, Megan Riffey, about the petition as well the Firefly like movie possibilities and her choice of Karl Urban or Michael Ealy.

Clasicalite: TV shows come and go all the time. What was it about this show
that made it worth fighting for?

Megan Riffey: I've always been into sci-fi movies and TV shows, so naturally I was drawn to the series before it even started. It's intriguing and it really makes you think about the future and the possibilities. What other show could say that?

CL: What are some of your favorite TV show currently on TV?

MR: I'd say Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Vikings, Sleepy Hollow, and Revolution, as of right now.

CL: Do you think that Sleepy Hollow ending its season early hurt the show?

MR: I believe it did. When Sleepy Hollow ended it didn't "feel" like the end of the season, and then you continue watching other shows and completely forget about it. It wasn't allowed to truly live up to its hype and I fear it will join the long list of cancelled shows after a few seasons.

CL: What other shows would you bring back if you could?

MR: I would probably have to go with: Firefly, Jericho, Blood Ties, and Dollhouse.

CL: What kind of reaction have you received?

MR: Mostly positive, people are amp'd and really excited.

Note: A rep from Netflix, David B. Wells has responded to the petition, stating:

“It's great to hear from fans and we've heard your interest in reviving Almost Human. I'm not the best exec to get this sort of petition but I've passed the interest to our content team. You can be sure that they will look at it. Best, D.”

CL: Would an Almost Human movie make you just as happy as a series renewal?

MR: If that is all we could get, most definitely. I'd prefer the series continued as it will allow the story to arc over many episodes, versus attempting to explain and tie everything up in a 2 (1/2) hour movie.

CL: Man or Machine? Karl Urban or Michael Ealy?

MR: Man: Simply because in the end, machine's are just electronic parts and can only make "logical" decisions. Sometimes the most logical isn't the right choice. Karl Urban for sure. I've seen quite a few of his movies and he just keeps getting better and better.
