The New York Knicks will play the Detroit Pistons in London Jan. 17 in the O2 Arena . London hosted the XXX Olympiad from July 27 to Aug.12 and the XIV Paralympics Games on Aug. 29 to Sept.9 and will now the National Basketball Association (NBA)
"London was the epicenter of global sports this summer, and the Olympics were a tremendous showcase for basketball," NBA Commissioner David Stern said in a statement."
This will be the NBA's second time in London having visited in the city in March 2011 when the Toronto Raptors and now Brooklyn Nets, contested two games in front of sold crowds there.
"Playing our third regular-season game in the city in three years and having historic franchises, like the Knicks and Pistons, serve as our ambassadors provide extraordinary opportunities to further game's growth and development in the UK and throughout Europe," said Stern.
Madison Square Garden duo Tyson Chandler and Carmelo Anthony were in London this past summer with the gold medal winning Team USA in the past Olympic games.
"I am excited to show our great fans in London what New York basketball is about. For Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler to return to the city where they helped Team USA win the gold makes it even more special for our team," said Knicks coach Mike Woodson.
The Knicks kick off their regular season campaign at their cross town rival Brooklyn Nets on Nov.1 while the Detroit Pistons take on former Knick Jeremy Lin and the Houston Rockets Oct.31 in Michigan.
