Frieze has recently announced the appointment of Kyla McMillan as its next director of New York's Armory Show. McMillan will replace Nicole Berry, who held the position for eight years before leaving to work at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.

McMillan took up her post-July 8 as the event prepares for its 30th anniversary edition, scheduled for September 6-8 at the Javits Center in New York.

"We are thrilled to welcome Kyla McMillan as director of the Armory Show," Kristell Chadé, Frieze's executive director of fairs, said. "Her wide-ranging experience and creative drive will undoubtedly take the fair to new heights, fostering an inclusive and dynamic environment. Her past projects have demonstrated a talent for reaching new audiences and forging meaningful connections with art."

After ten years in the art world, McMillan came to the Armory Show, where he worked for David Zwirner and Gavin Brown's company. She established Saint George Projects, a traveling gallery and consulting firm that held shows in several locations, including Berlin, Johannesburg, and New York. She graduated from the Studio Museum and the University of Maryland with a BA in art history.

In a statement, McMillan expressed her gratitude for joining the Armory Show at this important moment in the fair's history. She claimed her goal is to empower collectors and emphasize the fair's role as a platform for artists, galleries, and art enthusiasts.

Furthermore, she has acknowledged that the Armory Show has long been celebrated as a foundational fair for New York and the US art market. Now, she looks forward to building on the Armory Show's achievements while championing new voices and creating opportunities for diverse perspectives in contemporary art.
