Kathleen Turner, the Oscar, and Tony-Award-nominated actress, will play Madame Armfedt in the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical 'A Little Night Music' at Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine.

The limited engagement will open on Thursday, July 18, and run until Saturday, Aug. 17, under Hunter Foster's direction.

'A Little Night Music' is based on the Ingmar Bergman-directed and -written film 'Smiles of a Summer Night.' The production features a book by Wheeler and a score by Sondheim.

The story centers on three groups of seemingly mismatched lovers who are unsatisfied with their current relationship.

The most well-known song from Sondheim's Tony-winning music is 'Send in the Clowns,' which emerged as an unexpected radio hit following the Broadway production opening in 1973. The score also includes 'Every Day a Little Death,' 'A Weekend in the Country,' and 'The Miller's Son.'

In 1990, Turner received a Tony nomination for her role in 'Cat in a Hot Tin Roof.' She was also nominated for her role in 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' in 2005. Her Broadway credits include 'High,' 'The Graduate,' and 'Indiscretions.'

Furthermore, Turner has many on-screen credits, including 'War of the Roses,' 'Romancing the Stone,' 'Body Heat,' and 'Peggy Sue Got Married.' Her latest Broadway production was the drama 'High,' which debuted in 2011 and closed after just 28 previews and eight regular performances.

The world premiere of a new concert version of the musical, featuring Cynthia Erivo and Ruthie Ann Miles, with orchestrations of a 53-piece orchestra by Tunick, will be on Thursday, June 27, at Lincoln Center. The musical itself was last performed by Angela Lansbury as Madame Armfeldt on Broadway in 2009.

Ogunquit's 'A Little Night Music' is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International.
