Tony Awards announced that Broadway veteran Skylar Astin will host the American Express 'Broadway Fanfare' simulcast event on Sunday, June 16, in Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
The event will begin at 6:30 pm, with a pre-show beginning at 7:30 pm. The simulcast will start at 8 pm.
"As someone who has a special place in their heart for theater and the arts - with my roots as a Broadway performer - the opportunity to host the American Express simulcast is truly meaningful," Astin said. "Theater has always been about community, and this event will bring people closer to the incredible talent and magic of Broadway for an unforgettable experience."
Astin played Georg in the original 2006 Broadway production of 'Spring Awakening.' He also played the title role in the CBS series 'So Help Me Todd,' Max in the NBC musical drama series 'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist,' and Jesse in the 'Pitch Perfect' film franchise.
In 2022, Astin replaced Seymour in the Off-Broadway production of 'Little Shop of Horrors.'
In a joint statement, Heather Hitchens, president and CEO of the American Theatre Wing, and Jason Laks, interim president of the Broadway League, said they are delighted to welcome Astin to host the American Express simulcast event at the 77th annual Tony Awards.
They continued that they were certain Astin would cultivate an evening of excitement among theater fans on Broadway's biggest night.
'Broadway Fanfare' will be available to the public for free. In addition to the awards ceremony livestream, special pre-show performances will be by to-be-announced Broadway actors, a Broadway trivia challenge, and a 'See Your Name in Lights' photo opportunity.
Furthermore, refreshments will be available for purchase. A QR code to digitally access the 2024 Tony Awards program will be sent to each simulcast attendees.
