On Saturday, Foo Fighters pulled a prank on the Welcome to Rockville crowd at Daytona Beach, Florida, pretending to play a pair of Van Halen classics, only to reveal Mammoth Wolfgang Van Halen was performing in the wings.

The gag happened during the standard mid-show medley of drummer Josh Freese's songs during the headlining set.

Following a mashup of 'Sabotage' by the Beastie Boys, 'Blitzkrieg Bop' by the Ramones, and 'March of the Pigs' by Nine Inch Nails, frontman Dave Grohl whined to the audience, saying, "You know who never gets a fuckin' solo? I never get a fucking solo, me, goddammit! I'm going to do a fuckin' solo since this is the last fuckin' night of [our run of spring US shows]. What say you about that? "That guy can't play a fuckin' solo," you might be thinking. Would you like to watch me perform a guitar solo right now?"

The legendary Van Halen instrumental song 'Eruption' was then played by Grohl, who seemed to be playing it flawlessly. However, things took a strange turn as the music continued after the Foo Fighters frontman raised both arms in the air.

Wolfgang played on the sidelines, as shown on the large screens.

"Dude, I told you to keep that cool, Wolfie! What the fuck you doin' right now?" Grohl shouted. "Everybody, give it up for Wolfgang Van Halen," he added.

Wolfgang then played the guitar solo from Van Halen's 'Hot for Teacher,' to which Grohl insisted that part was not planned. Wolfgang had played a concert with his band Mammoth WVH earlier in the day.

Foo Fighters' short spring tour came to an end with the Welcome to Rockville show, but the band will be returning to the road in June and early July for a UK/European tour, then starting on July 17 at City Field in Queens, New York, a month-long US stadium tour.
