Joe Grushecky Unveils New Studio Album and Anthology With The Houserockers

Last Thursday, April 11, rock 'n' roll legend Joe Grushecky announced the release dates of two new projects under Omnivore Recordings: his new studio album "Can't Outrun A Memory," out on July 12; and "Houserocker: A Joe Grushecky Anthology," out on May 24.

His upcoming studio album, for one, marks the first time Grushecky and his band released new material in over 7 years. It features 13 original tracks from the rock icon and an intense iteration of The Animals classic: "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place."

Along with the announcement, Grushecky shares an advance single off of his anthology: "Pumping Iron," saying in a statement: "Through all the years playing every type of gig imaginable, 'Pumping Iron' has become our signature song."

"We have never gotten tired of it, and it is a highlight of every show," he continued.

"I believe we captured the band at its peak," he said, describing the 17-track pure rock and roll record that confirms Grushecky and his band's staying power despite decades of serving gritty and uncompromising music.

A Rearview Sight With 'Houserocker: A Joe Grushecky Anthology'

Covering four decades of performances under many pseudonyms and bands, including Iron City Houserockers, Joey G., Joe Grushecky And The Houserockers, and under his own name, Grushecky's new anthology release is an intensive retrospect of the legend's best work.

His humble beginnings find him as a fan of The Beatles growing up in the bleak coal mining town of Biddle, Pittsburgh, the appearance of which at The Ed Sullivan Show spurred him to pursue his rocker dream with a guitar in hand.

By the late 1970s, Grushecky worked as a Special Education teacher during the day, only going out for gigs at night with his band at the time, the Iron City Houserockers. In 1979, however, the band hit big and was signed under Steve Popovich's Cleveland International.

Since then, Grushecky worked with a slew of iconic records, from his first album: "Love's So Tough" to his more recent projects with The Houserockers, which include productions and contributions from the likes of Mick Ronson, Bruce Springsteen, and Steve Vandt.

All of these and more are in the rock icon's expansive anthology, whose tracks are remastered by multiple Grammy-winner Michael Graves, and co-Produced by Joe's son and current Houserocker Johnny Grushecky, and multiple Grammy-winner Cheryl Pawelski.

This anthology, which includes comprehensive liner notes and Track-by-Track remarks from Grushecky himself, is now available for pre-order through this link. See what it offers by listening to the lead single, "Pumping Iron," right below.
