A painting made by former H.M. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is set to go under the hammer in a live sale facilitated by Bruun Rasmussen this upcoming March, according to the auction house's press release last Tuesday, Jan. 30.
An Opportunity to Own Art by H.M. Queen Margrethe II
The then monarch's artwork is estimated to fetch between DKK 75,000 to DKK 100,000, or roughly around $11,000 to $15,000.
This sale will allow art enthusiasts to acquire one of Queen Margethe's works of art, many of which have already been showcased in local and international exhibitions, including ARoS, ARKEN, and Brandts Klædefabrik.
"We are very much looking forward to offering this work by H.M. Queen Margrethe II, which testifies to her immense passion for and prolificacy within art and creative work," said Bruun Rasmussen's Specialist in Modern & Contemporary Art, Niels Boe-Hauggaard, as quoted in the release.
"Her great activity in the field has long been known to the public, but it is extremely rare for us to see her works at auction," he added.
Bruun Rasmussen also explained that while many of the then monarch's works were showcased in art shows all over the world, only works that "have had a close relationship with the queen" have been made available for personal acquisition.
This painting, in particular, was Queen Margrethe's 1988 gift to her former Court Marshal, Hans Sølvhøj, and has been part of his family collection ever since. In that same year, the queen also began to exhibit her works publicly.

H.M. Queen Margrethe II's Love of Art
The queen's artistry was first publicized in 1970 after she designed that year's iteration of the annual Christmas seal.
As per Boe-Hauggaard, the inherent stories involved with the queen's expansive oeuvre are told across a wide range of mediums, which include "the visual arts, scenography, découpage, and costume design."
"The queen found her inspiration for the painting up for auction in the natural world, expressing it in a lyrical idiom. It is a highly personal artistic universe," he said.
H.M. Queen Margrethe II's fascination for art has even led to her producing prototype illustrations for Tolkien's famed trilogy "The Lord of The Rings," all of which she made under a pseudonym in the 1970s.
At the beginning of this year, Margrethe announced that she would step down as Denmark's monarch after reigning for over 52 years, which took the country's citizens by surprise. Her elder son, Frederik, was then handed the crown on Jan. 14 as Denmark's new king.
