Bartlett Sher’s Opera Othello to Air on PBS [NEWS]

It seems that Bartlett Sher is truly everywhere going into 2016. According to the latest gossip news updates, in addition to having his successful revival of The Fiddler on the Roof running on Broadway and his production of Charles-François Gounod's Romeo and Juliet headed to the Lyric Opera of Chicago next month, PBS will soon be airing his take on Verdi's Othello as well.

Fans of Verdi's classic four act masterpiece Othello that still haven't seen Bartlett Sher's take on the iconic opera are in luck.

The Met has just announced via press release that PBS intends to air the Tony Award-winner's acclaimed production of the Shakespeare inspired opus next month for followers of Sher and Verdi alike:

"Verdi's late masterpiece based on Shakespeare's tragic drama of jealousy and deceit, Otello, airs on THIRTEEN'S Great Performances at the Met Sunday, February 21 at 12 p.m. on PBS.

"In New York, THIRTEEN will air the opera at 12:30 p.m."

Sher's Chicago followers that have been unable to make it down to New York to take in one of his new productions will be happy to hear that his interpretation of Charles Guonod's Romeo and Juliet will be coming to the Lyric Opera in a few short weeks.

Serious opera lovers need not dawdle in getting their tickets, however, as Chicago Sun-Times reports, that Romeo and Juliet won't be in the Windy City for long:

"The Gounod opera, which will be part of the citywide Shakespeare 400 Chicago festival marking the 400th anniversary of the playwright's death, will run for nine performances only, Feb. 22 -March 19, 2016."

Be sure to catch Othello on PBS January 31 at 12 p.m. EST; and don't forget to get your tickets to Romeo and Juliet by calling the Lyric Operah of Chicago at (312) 827-560 or visiting their official Lyric Opera website.
