Whitney Cummings, the foul-mouthed stand up comedian, returned to Howard Stern today. During their hour long interview, she discussed what it was like to have her show canceled, as well as, insecurities she has about her body image.
Whitney, who has always been hard on herself (despite being super hot), really opened up about how self-conscious she got from doing network television, telling Howard:
“You know, I think that my self esteem took a big hit doing a television show. Starring in a TV show, you really begin to hone in on your flaws and begin to see them where they don’t exist.”
She went on to bash her former network:
“You can’t really go south on NBC, nothing personal. I give NBC a lot of credit for being passionate about a multi-camera show which really wasn’t cool at the time. The show tested very well and I think that however well it tests affects a show’s promotional budget. That’s a lot of pressure. But, i think a lot of time in this day and age, the advertising was so ubiquitous and aggressive and just everywhere, that I think people just got sick of me.”
“There was a backlash. There was so much hype before the show even aired, that by the time it actually came on they were like, ‘Oh Jesus, it’s this girl,’ you know?”
Stern asked Cummings what she regretted about her experience:
“I wish that I had known more before getting involved. It was good exposure. I wish I had known that therapy is very important when doing a show and don’t look at the monitor. I kinda had a ‘manic break’. I am basically a filthy comic from the club and then I went to being judged like an actress or model would be. That was really hard.”
Things got even harder for Whitney when her health was at risk. The actress/comedian stopped eating and sleeping:
“I was very sleep deprived and lost a lot of weight and it was something I wasn’t proud of...I was dying and the second season I started getting sick...I was sleeping just a couple of hours a night and was getting really bad under-eye bags...All of a sudden there was all these close door meetings...and then everyone started dropping hints. The producers pulled me aside and told me that I needed to go to sleep or go home.”
Luckily for Cummings, her hit show "Two Broke Girls" is doing great! The CBS series is entering into syndication and since Whitney is the creator, she will be seeing mad cash!!!
